Financial Trading Day Challenge – students learning to use real world news for investment decision-making! 6/07/17
On Thursday 6th July, De Salis Studio College students took part in an exciting Financial Trading Challenge (FTC). The challenge was designed to give our students, who were all aged between 13 and 15 years old, exposure to the fast paced world of financial trading, through a range of simulated financial trading activities.
Students were able to apply the knowledge they have gained in their Economics, Computer Science, Business and Financial Studies lessons, through taking the part of either an Investment Analyst or Trader. This was an exciting event, with students working to tight time limits as they would in the real world of financial markets and business. They learnt how everyday news affects financial trading and investment and how the stock market uses this information to make decisions.
The Challenge also gave them the opportunity to further develop their teamwork, problem solving, decision-making, verbal and numeracy skills.
This simulated FTC event proved to be a valuable learning experience, significantly contributing to students’ continuing development of business awareness, entrepreneurship and transferable employability skills.
The Challenge was brought to a close with students proudly delivering presentations, which perfectly showcased their business and entrepreneurial skills as well as their ability to describe and communicate financial trading data.
